Library
Since moving to its new location within the Hub in May of 2016, the Library has become an even more popular place to be within the school. With over 10,000 books, a selection of magazines, newspapers and 30 PCs, we have something to offer students of all year groups.
All students in Year 7 are given a library induction to introduce them to the library and what it has to offer. Books can be borrowed for two weeks at a time and can be renewed at any time at the information desk.
Starting in Year 8, students are welcome to apply to be a Student Library Assistant. This is a fun and educational position that teaches teamwork, organisation, public speaking and responsibility. Our Student Library Assistants play a very important role within the Library and take part in several extracurricular activities.
All students in Year 7, 8 and 9 have a bi-weekly Library lesson with their English teacher. The lesson is led by the Library Manager and focuses on responsible researching, digital citizenship and of course promoting the love of reading for pleasure.
Every year the Library runs a House Reading Challenge open to all students in the school. Students are encouraged to write reviews of books they read both in the Library and at home in order to support their House and to gain Achievement Points.
In addition, there are several clubs, programs and competitions that students can take advantage of in the Library. These include Book clubs, Manga & Anime Clubs, Board Game Club, Dungeons and Dragons Club and Film Club to name a few. The students also are able to meet authors both in person and virtually during their time at Glenthorne.
The Library also has a fully stocked bookshop that provides all of the stationery needs of the students at a discounted price. For a full list of items available in the bookshop please contact Mr. Maxwell or Ms. Saillard using the email addresses below.
